I am honoured to be appointed as Shadow Assistant Minister for Skills and Shadow Assistant Minister for Aged Care.

As a former nurse, a nurse educator and national secretary of the nurses’ union, I am passionate about the aged care sector. I will work relentlessly to hold this government to account to ensure aged care gets the resources and reform it deserves. How we treat our most vulnerable, especially our elderly, says everything about what we value in society.

I have big shoes to fill, following in the footsteps of Senator Doug Cameron, who made a substantial and lasting contribution as Labor’s Shadow Minister for Skills, TAFE and Apprenticeships. No one was a bigger advocate for publically funded TAFE to be the anchor of quality in vocational education and a skills sector which delivers decent work. I hope to do him proud.

I’m pleased to be able to work on issues that I have long been passionate about and draw on my pre-parliamentary professional experience in these roles. 

I am honoured to be supporting two formidable women with these portfolios - Tanya Plibersek and Julie Collins, to hold the Morrison Government to account in these areas.
