Ged Kearney MP was joined by Senator Doug Cameron to announce that a Shorten Labor government will deliver $990,000 to the Darusulum Society, a non-profit organisation who represent the Somali community in Cooper and surrounding electorates.
The funding will assist Darusalam to build their Multigenerational Community & Education Centre. The Centre will be a community hub and will include sporting facilities, school holidays programs, women’s program and refugee family support services. The Centre will focus on supporting Somali youth and women, and will deliver programs which prevent social isolation.
Organisations like Darusalam make a significant contribution to welcoming and supporting refugee and migrant communities. Labor stands side by side with these organisations.
Ged Kearney MP congratulated the Darusalam Society on their commitment to the Centre. “Labor understands how important it is for migrant communities to have access to welcoming faces and support programs. I am so proud to be supporting the Centre and know what a great benefit it will bring to the community.”
Senator Cameron, who announced the funding with Ged Kearney noted Labor’s commitment to our multicultural communities. “Labor believes the values of inclusion; acceptance and respect; the rejection of racism; the rejection of prejudice; the rejection of division” Doug said.
