Labor's Plan For Aged Care

Every older Australian deserves to age with dignity, respect, and the best possible care. But for too long, our aged care system was in crisis—underfunded, understaffed, and neglected by a Liberal government that simply didn’t care.

We want to support Australians to age well, feel secure in retirement, and access the care and support they need.

That’s why I'm so proud to be proud of a government that is pursuing the most ambitious set of aged care policy reforms in Australian history designed to ensure the viability and quality of aged care, and support growing numbers of older Australians choosing to retain their independence and remain in their homes as they age.

What have we done

Passed laws requiring aged care homes to have registered nurses on site - 24/7
Delivered a major pay raise for aged care workers who the Coalition undervalued.
Invested $5.6 billion in aged care reform including $4.3 billion to the Support at Home program to help 1.4 million Australians live independently - saving families and carers $12.6 billion over the next 11 years.
Passed the new Aged Care Act, creating a higher level of care for Australians in aged care and granting stronger powers to a new regulator to investigate breaches of improved standards in Aged Care homes.
Expanded access to the Seniors Health Card to support older Australians with the cost of living while freezing the maximum price of PBS prescriptions for pensioner and concession card holders for the next 5 years to ensure those Australians can get the medicine they need.
Provided free training for aged care cooks and chefs to make sure older Australians have access to good nutritious food.

Caring for Those Who Cared for Us

Older Australians have spent their lives building this country. They deserve better than to be forgotten in underfunded facilities or left struggling to afford home care.
